St. Mary’s “Fish Friars” start new tradition
On Friday, April 16, St. Mary’s of Richland Center will host what their next fish fry. Many volunteers have stepped forward to help out with everything from prepping and frying the fish, to hosting and serving all of the menu items.
The fish fries will be held on the 3rd Friday of the month in March, April, May, September, October, November, and February. This event will not only be a fundraiser for needs at St. Mary’s, but provides workers and patrons alike an opportunity to build community by gathering together.
Members of the parish were invited to a trial run in February, and the Fish Fry Committee has responded to that feedback by doubling the fryer capacity and re-arranging the worker assignments a bit to meet the needs of everyone who attends. The menu includes: fried haddock, cheesy hash brown potatoes, baked potatoes, garlic cheese biscuits, cole slaw, beverages, and dessert.
The cost to attend this Fish Fry is: Adults - $10, Seniors - $8, Children (5-12) $5, and Children under 5 - $1. Carryouts are available for $10 by calling 647-4470.
The Fish Fry has been organized to run from 4:30 pm -- 5:30 pm in St. Mary’s School, and 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm in the basement of St. Mary’s Church. The earlier seating at the school provides those needing wheelchair access an opportunity to attend the dinner without needing to use the stairs leading to the church basement.
