This weekend marks the beginning of our annual celebration of Catholic Schools Week (January 31 to February 5). We have many activities going on, and I’d like to highlight just a few.
On Sunday, we will be hosting St. Joseph’s from Dodgeville for boys’ and girls’ basketball as well as recognizing our parents on Parents’ Day.
On Tuesday morning, we welcome the grandparents of students in grades K-4. Students will attend Mass at 10:00 am with their grandparents and then take them to lunch afterward.
A variety of mini courses run by parish and community members will be offered to students in grades 5-8 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Some of the new ones this year include:
- a mock trial led by Amy Forehand
- a percussion workshop offered by Jeff Behrens
- Sewing with Suzanne headed up by Suzanne Unbehaun
- Art with Food by Deb Zorea
- Mystery of Mirrors by Jordan Maclay
…just to name a few.
On Wednesday evening, there will be
- an open house along with kindergarten registration from 4:30 – 6:30 in the school and all are invited.
- At the same time, the 8th graders will be sponsoring a soup and hot dog supper in the church basement.
- Home and School will be running a game night where people can come together and play good old-fashioned board games…no video games allowed!
This, too, will be in the church basement Wednesday evening and all are welcome!
On Friday, NASA Ambassador John Heasley will be bringing several St. Mary’s alumni from the high school to give our students a lesson on space and the stars…and NASA has loaned him some actual rocks from the moon for our students to examine. He will also be bringing a starlab which our students and staff will be able to enter and check out a variety of constellations that are found in the night sky.
The staff and students at St. Mary’s School are excited to share our school with you. We welcome your help in celebrating the benefits of a Catholic school education. We continue to recognize that keeping our school going is a sacrifice for our parish. We know that times are difficult and we feel so blessed that our parish continues to make the school a priority. We work hard to invest your offerings in a way that will truly pay off with the kinds of dividends that can only come from a Catholic School education.
Thank you!
